Jason's B-day Charity Donation (due by JULY 1ST)
« Thread Started on Apr 1, 2008, 8:06am »

UPDATE 6/9/08:
Hey guys, at this point we've determined that we don't have enough money to contribute to two charities - so we are just sticking with the one. Also, we have extended the deadline until July 1st - so PLEASE get the money in if you can :) It'd be much appreciated!

UPDATE 5/27/08:

We would like to get birthday charity donations by Tuesday, June 10th, if at all possible. That is only two weeks from today. This will allow us to assess whether or not we might want to pick a 2nd charity (depending on how much we collect)....also, it allows us to mention ALL of the birthday contributor names in the book that we are making and having bound for Jason's Birthday.

PLEASE let me know if you prefer NOT to have your name mentioned in the book, otherwise, we are planning to list contributor names and where they are from.

EDIT: 4/10/08 -

Jason Wade's 28th Birthday Gift (July 5th) - Charity Donation Account is Set Up

The PayPal account for receiving gift contributions is now set up. Based on responses in this thread, the "It Won't Happen To Me" charity set up to educate teens about driving safety seems to be the first pick. Koen also suggests considering multiple charities if we are able to collect "a boat load of money". Let's start this process and see how well we do!

"It Won't Happen To Me" Organization Website

CNN Story re: It Won't Happen to Me w/co-founder Bill Richardson

If you want to contribute to Jason's Birthday Gift/Charity Donation, please send an e-mail to me (Karen) at bkkae@comcast.net.

I will then send an e-mail message back (from my paypal account) with a payment/contribtion link in it. The contribution amount is not set within the link, so you can decide on the amount at the time of payment.

If you are late to this topic, the idea is to present Jason with this gift (donation to a charity he would hopefully approve of) on his birthday, July 5th in Milwaukee. Over 20 B-Sides members are planning to attend the concert that day.

Hello everyone,

I think a number of you haven't been visiting the Milwaukee thread, even though it's been one of the longer threads on the board lately.

As you might have heard/figured out, the rescheduled Milwaukee show is on Jason's birthday (July 5). In the past we've donated to a charity in his name, as a birthday present. Several people came up with good ideas and charities so we could do this again in 2008. Below I will make a list of all the charities that people suggested.

Kristi suggested we could do something involving:
- transplants (Broken)
- teen suicide (The Joke)
- teen driving (From Where You Are)

=============================================
Causes/Charities:

- To Write Love On Her Arms (http://www.twloha.com)
click here to view the post Cayte made about it

- Safe Teen Driving (http://www.safeteendrivingclub.org/index.php)
Breann came up with this one, but donations are unclear

- It Won't Happen To Me (http://www.itwonthappentome.org)
Karen found this after looking at Breann's suggestion. Click here to view the post Karen made about it

- Feed The Children (http://www.feedthechildren.org)
Lifehouse recently donated an autographed guitar to this cause for auctioning and it made $800 for this organization. So I thought we could consider this.

- Gift Of Life (http://www.giftoflife.org/index.html)
Cayte found out that a relative of a fellow Lifehouse fan passed away last week and he was connected with this organization.

=============================================

If you have any more suggestions for charities/causes, please feel free to post. If you have any questions or suggestions or whatever, please let your voice be heard.

As of now, we're just thinking along the lines we worked it out in the past, to set up a paypal account and let people donate to that, and then use that money to donate to the charity. It's up to yourself how much you wish to donate, as every little bit counts. We can then donate it in Jason's name. I think we can make a list of people who donate in this thread if people would like that.

Questions about specific causes, I'll let the people who came up with them answer those, though I think many things are already on the causes websites and in the previously made posts in the Milwaukee thread (I posted links for those too).

I really like Karen's idea with the "It Won't Happen to Me" thing.

Oh, and on the site that I found, there's a fundraising section on the site. I'm not sure how it works, because they ask you to contact them. I think it might be something where you go out and sell things, or something. I'm not sure. But here's the link to that part. I'm pretty sure that that's not the best way to go. :P

I will commit to manage the donations (if that is okay with you all) -- I think we have at least committed to go down this path by now.

Over the next week, I will work on my paypal account to set it up to receive -- it's no problem since this has been on my long list of things to do anyway.

I'll let you know when I have it set up.

It's important over the next couple of weeks to continue to get your input regarding what donation sounds best to you. We have a good response regarding the "It Won't Happen To Me" charity that travels to high schools to do teen driving seminars, but we can gather more information from all of you and make a final decision at a later date.

You guys are great! I think this is a cool idea....thanks to Kristi for the push with the great suggestions regarding possible causes! Your effort there got our thoughtful juices flowing....

If we collect a substantial amount of $$ maybe we can even donate to more than one cause? Don't know if we'll raise that much, but the thought crossed my mind.

That's a great idea to consider once we know what we've collected!

I'm also on board with the one that Karen selected :) They seemed like a really small organization would appreciate our donations and it's a cause that's close to Jason right now. But I'd still love to see more options if anyone has them! This is a group effort so if you have an idea - let's hear it!

yeah, I have a pretty cool idea that involves the donations to charities. something to give to Jason. All I need is someone that's going to give it to him, but since 80% of the board'll be there, that shouldn't be a problem. I'll elaborate on my idea once I have it figured out some more.

Jessi...it was sold out, but since it was re-scheduled, there are/were tickets available again due to returns after the postponement. Try both the venue and Ticketmaster. The fees are a little higher at ticketmaster, but not by much. Be cautious, because the venue tried to tell me it was sold out on Saturday...using old information. Check both places if you have a problem with the venue.
